Breaking a Product Cipher
The letter statistics do not move, and the counts match one substitution used twice. Repeating a weak cipher does not make it strong.
Measure both statistics at each stage of a two-round product cipher.
Show that the transposition contributes nothing the histogram can see.
Say what a modern round adds that alternating these two stages does not.
